Deer Leather
This commercially-tanned leather is very thick and pliable - perfect for moccasins. It is from ranch-raised stock so there are virtually no holes. The hides are large, and a #12 beading needle will go through the hide easily and will also "nick" the hide easily (for using lazy-stitch). The surface is moderately easy to bead on - one side is sueded and the other has a slightly sueded grain. The look approximates real slightly - smoked brain - tanned hide with a creamy ochre colour. This is a wonderful alternative to actual brain-tan leather.
