Small Tobacco Bags
These little “canli” ( tobacco ) bags are completely tidy and beautifully beaded.
Similar to the larger cedar bags, each is made of four leaf-shaped sections measuring 3 ¾ inches tall by 2 inches across the widest part of the shape. The bags are decorated with two beaded discs on two opposite sides of the bag.
As with the cedar bags, this shape hearkens back to the old-time shape for Lakota women’s tobacco-and-pipe bags. They are small and perfect for storing tobacco for offerings. Some are even purchased to use as offerings themselves for personally important ceremonies.
