Padre beads
These Czech wound glass beads were a shape that was originally made in China. They came into North America with the Spanish and up from Mesoamerica into the American Southwest. The name "padre beads" allegedly refers to their use by the Spanish padres as rewards to Indian children for learning their catechism lessons. They were a very popular trade item on the Northern Plains as well. One of Red Cloud's shirts is trimmed with these.
